Write for us
We welcome thoughtful pitches about customs, gatherings, foodways, dress and seasonal life. A strong proposal starts with a particular question and gives readers context without claiming that one practice represents a whole community.
What makes a good pitch
Suggest an evergreen subject that can be explained clearly for a general reader. Tell us the central question, the angle you would take, why it is worth considering and what reliable material could support the piece. Proposals that make room for variation and avoid stereotypes are especially suited to this publication.
What to send
Send a short outline rather than a finished article, and include a brief note about relevant experience or familiarity with the subject. Do not send confidential material or claim first-hand experience you do not have. We cannot promise publication or payment through a pitch alone.
How to propose
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please do not send a complete unsolicited manuscript; a clear outline gives us enough to consider the idea.
A custom is a living thing
Practices gather meaning as people share them, and change as life changes. We look for context, variation and the details that make a tradition legible.
