Open People Guide

Editorial policy

Open People Guide aims to describe human customs accurately, with context and respect. We make our reasoning visible, distinguish what is known from what is interpreted, and welcome careful corrections.

Accuracy and context

We check factual statements against appropriate material before publication and avoid presenting a single account as universal. When a subject has meaningful differences of practice or interpretation, we say so. We do not invent quotations, experiences or sources, and we revise wording when a claim is too broad or unclear.

Independence and partnerships

Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers, not as a condition of a partnership. Any sponsored or partner material is clearly labelled where it appears and kept distinct from independent editorial work. A collaboration does not guarantee coverage or a favourable account.

Corrections and illustrations

Readers can send corrections through the Contact page. We review them and amend published material when warranted, making significant changes clear to readers. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; when that is the case, the image is identified as AI-generated and is not offered as documentary evidence.

A note on our approach

A custom is a living thing

Practices gather meaning as people share them, and change as life changes. We look for context, variation and the details that make a tradition legible.
